2018-32: Documentation Timeline Change for 30-Day Readmissions

Effective July 1, 2018, Louisiana Healthcare Connections will change the timeframe to submit supporting documentation for 30-day readmissions from 30 calendar days to 90 calendar days.

The 30-day readmission policy is based in part on the methodology set forth in the Quality Improvement Organization Manual, CMS Publication 100-10, Chapter 4, Section 4240, for determining an inappropriate readmission.

Louisiana Healthcare Connections currently requires the supporting documentation to be submitted within 30 calendar days of the written notification or Explanation of Benefits (EOB). This timeline is being changed to match our timely filing guidelines of 90 calendar days. Effective July 1, 2018, providers will have 90 calendar days from the written notification or EOB to submit the supporting documentation for medical review.
