Earn Free CMEs In Treatment of Opioid Addiction

Date: 01/09/20

Healthcare providers in Louisiana have the opportunity to become buprenorphine-waivered to treat Opioid-Use Disorder (OUD) through a free, online educational course offered on January 17, 2020, by Louisiana Healthcare Connections.

Currently, only 1,242 healthcare providers in Louisiana are waivered to administer buprenorphine as a treatment for opioid use disorder. Throughout 2019, Louisiana Healthcare Connections offered a free training series that provided an additional 121 clinicians with the opportunity to become buprenorphine-waivered. Based on the success of the training course, the health plan has elected to continue it in 2020 – at no cost to physicians.

The course, conducted by the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM), supports our efforts to increase the state’s number of buprenorphine-waivered clinicians. Buprenorphine is the first at-home therapy to treat OUD and offers great potential for expanding treatment, according to the New England Journal of Medicine.

The course will be held January 17, 2020, and physicians are encouraged to register now to reserve their seats. Registration may be completed online at www.LouisianaHealthConnect.com/ASAMtraining.
