Fall 2024 Virtual BH Trainings with Free CE for LMHPs

Louisiana Healthcare Connections is sharing with provider that the Office of Behavioral Health is sponsoring the following free virtual
continuing education opportunities through December 2024 for licensed behavioral health professionals accepting Medicaid or working for Medicaid facilities/agencies. Behavioral health professionals include psychologists, social workers, MH counselors, addiction counselors, and marriage and family therapists licensed by their respective professional licensing boards.
Trusted Provider Network (TPN.health) will be hosting and offering free continuing education credit for completing the trainings briefly described below with registration links:

- The educational goal of this workshop is to provide clinicians with proven communication strategies for clear, concise, and compelling speech and writing that is sensitive to the unique journey of those struggling with addiction, depression, and suicide.

Motivational Interviewing with Mike McGuire, LCSW, LMFT, LCAS and Ali Hall, JD, MINT Certified Trainer

- Three day series with 18 total CE hours and 6 CE hours per day.
- 9:30 AM - 4:45 PM on Monday, October 7, 2024; Monday, October 14, 2024; and Friday November 8, 2024
- This highly interactive, informative 3 days of training will teach participants how to create an effective environment for change for clients. Participants will benefit most from attending all three days of training, which build upon one another over and across the 3 days of training. Expect a fun and engaging environment introducing foundational MI skills followed by more advanced application.
6 CE hours – Friday, October 18, 2024: Understanding and Working with Suicidal Clients with Ray Tucker, PhD.

- Dr. Tucker teaches at LSU and is an expert in managing suicidality.
- The educational goal of this workshop is to obtain an increased understanding of what suicidal thoughts are, what they aren’t, and how to respond to them in clinical settings. This training will describe the contemporary understanding of reasons people think about suicide and how thoughts of suicide can be effectively managed in healthcare settings.

6 CE hours - Monday, October 28, 2024: DSM 5-TR Updates for Adults with Gary Gintner, Ph.D., LPC-S, NCC

- Dr. Gintner is a nationally recognized DSM expert who will present on the changes, clinical implications of the updates made in the DSM 5-TR for disorders typically encountered in adults, and corresponding treatment recommendations.

7 CE hours – Friday, November 15, 2024: Problem Gambling Identification, Screening and Referral with Dan Trolaro, MS

- Dan Trolaro is an excellent, engaging presenter who will educate attendees on the many facets of problem gambling for clinicians to be better able to recognize, screen for, and refer to treatment as indicated.
- Problem gambling is linked to many individual, public health, and social problems including: depression, suicide, significant debt, bankruptcy, family conflict, domestic violence, neglect and maltreatment of children and criminal offenses. As with any addiction, treatment and early intervention utilizing various approaches can be very effective. This workshop will provide an overview and analysis of gaming and gambling, identifying vulnerabilities as well as the behavioral, emotional and psychological warning signs. Considerations for recovery will be addressed including screening, treatment and key principles and barriers faced by those who struggle with addiction as well as loved ones.

- Dr. Lee Michals is an addiction psychiatrist with Tulane University known for his compassion, knowledge, and skill in working with patients with substance use and psychiatric comorbidities.
- The educational goal of this workshop is to increase understanding of treatment modalities for substance use disorders and comorbid psychiatric disorders.
- This presentation will explore the treatment strategies for patients with substance use disorders, focusing on recognizing comorbid psychiatric disorders at all ASAM levels of care. Specific treatments for both substance use and psychiatric disorders will be discussed with an emphasis on working with a multidisciplinary treatment team. Harm reduction with the goal of improving retention in treatment will also be covered.
