Is It Time for A Well-Child Checkup?

Date: 08/12/24

If you’re just welcoming baby home, or if your little one is just about to start school, there’s one thing all kids need — their well-child checkups.

Regular well-child visits are a good way for your pediatrician to track your child’s development and prevent or detect health issues. To benefit from everything your provider can offer, keep up with scheduled well-child visits.

Louisiana Healthcare Connections members can earn $30 in healthy rewards by completing six infant well visits before they are 15 months old. These well visits happen at 2, 4, 6, 9, 12 and 15 months.

Before or during your visit, ask your child’s doctor about getting fluoride varnish applied. Fluoride varnish is a protective coating a doctor puts on your child’s teeth. It takes less than two minutes to apply and dries almost instantly. It’s also safe and painless!

Fluoride varnish helps protect against cavities and tooth decay. Children of all ages, even infants, can have fluoride varnish applied. It’s best they get it starting at 6 months of age. Learn more about fluoride varnish.
