The Medicaid Managed Care Organization Delivers Quality Healthcare to the State
Baton Rouge, La. (February 1, 2022) – Louisiana Healthcare Connections is celebrating a milestone this February of ten years working with providers throughout Louisiana to deliver quality health care, benefits and programs to our members. Louisiana Healthcare Connections has grown to be the largest Medicaid managed care organization in the state, with more than 500,000 members. Louisiana Healthcare Connections also employs heavily throughout the state to service these members.
“According to the most recent Medicaid Managed Care Transparency Report, Louisiana Healthcare Connections employs more than 40% of all in-state Medicaid health plan jobs, with over 300 more in-state employees than any other health plan,” noted Jamie Schlottman, Louisiana Healthcare Connections CEO & Plan President.
Providers across Louisiana also choose to work with Louisiana Healthcare Connections, nearly 40,000 providers in the integrated network, nearly 8,000 more than the next managed care organization. They have also ranked first among all managed care organizations for overall satisfaction in the latest Louisiana Department of Health Provider Satisfaction Survey from 2020.
“All of these factors can also translate into better health for our members,” continued Schlottman. “We’ve seen marked improvements in health outcomes. During our most recent Louisiana Department of Health contract period, beginning in 2014, we have improved several positive indicators of health; prenatal visits have increased by nearly 18 percentage points, postpartum care visits are up nearly 20 percentage points, childhood immunizations are up more than 55 percentage points, and breast cancer screenings are up more than 18 points.”
During the past decade of growth as a company, Louisiana Healthcare Connections has also given back to the communities it serves. Employee and company donations of time, talent, and resources has been consistent throughout the years – for example, 2021 holiday giving alone calculated 1,632 pounds of food and more than 650 toys and books collected. And, because Louisiana Healthcare Connections invests heavily in local partners, local employees, local businesses, their growth has benefitted the local economy as well. A recent report conducted by the Baton Rouge Area Chamber cited a total economic impact of $904.8 million in the state of Louisiana from 2012 to 2020, with a peak employment of 673 full-time employment jobs. This local investment produced a $98.4 million greater impact compared to other Medicaid health plans which rely more heavily on out-of-state jobs.
As a small business owner with a company doing business in Louisiana since 1969, Kevin Bankston, President and CEO with Baton Rouge Printing, attested to the value of Louisiana Healthcare Connections investment in our state’s economy. “By working with local companies and vendors to provide what could be procured through out-of-state, corporate resources, they have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the economic health and welfare of Louisiana.”
“We are Transforming Health, Ten Years Strong; looking forward to another decade of transforming Louisiana’s health, one person at a time,” declared Schlottman.
