Need to respond to a letter from Louisiana Medicaid?

Date: 05/21/19

Louisiana Medicaid recently sent out letters asking enrollees to renew their coverage, provide more information, or both. As a result, Louisiana Medicaid has reported a high call volume to its Medicaid Customer Service Hotline at 1-888-342-6207.

If you get a busy signal or a period of silence when you call, the system has reached its limit. You can try your call again later. Representatives are available from 7 a.m. – 6 p.m. Callers on hold at 6 p.m. will be helped when a representative becomes available.

Louisiana Medicaid offers the following tips for those attempting to call the hotline:

If you need to renew your coverage:

The best way to renew is to do it online through the Self-Service Portal. The portal is available on any computer or mobile device. On the portal, you can fill out an application, renew your coverage, or make changes to your information. You can also request a new Medicaid card, or find out the status of your application by using the portal.

If you are having trouble with the portal, you can find helpful guides to assist you here, including a “How to Renew Your Medicaid and LaCHIP Coverage Online” guide. You can also find a list of Frequently Asked Questions that may be helpful as you create an online account and link your Medicaid case to your account.

If you need to submit information: Look in your letter for the section with the heading that says, “Information We Need From You.” This section will tell you what information is needed. It will also tell you the date the information is due. You can submit this information by email, fax or mail:

  • Email: myMedicaid@la.gov
  • Fax: 1-877-523-2987
  • Mail: Louisiana Medicaid/LaCHIP, P.O. Box 91283, Baton Rouge, LA, 70821-9278

Remember: It’s important to respond to letters from Louisiana Medicaid.

If you don’t renew your Medicaid or provide the information requested, your case may be closed and you could lose your Medicaid coverage.
