Louisiana Healthcare Connections Awards Small Grants for Big Impact

Date: 02/18/25

Baton Rouge, La.

Louisiana Healthcare Connections has announced the award of six community grants, totaling $12,000, to support innovative health initiatives addressing social drivers of health, increasing access to preventive care and improving health outcomes for Louisiana communities.

“Funding innovative projects that address health-harming social needs allows even small grants to make a big impact,” said Louisiana Healthcare Connections Senior Vice President of Quality Improvement, Yolanda Wilson. “These grants invest in local organizations to positively affect health across the state.”

These grants were awarded to nonprofits, healthcare providers, and schools implementing community-centered solutions:

North Oaks Health System will establish a food pantry to address the critical issue of food insecurity among patients, using grant funds to supply food until USDA support is secured.

CareSouth will expand transportation services to eliminate barriers to accessing nutritious food and other essential resources for residents in Baton Rouge.

Free ALAS will expand psychoeducational programming in Orleans Parish for youth dealing with trauma, fostering resilience and healthy coping mechanisms.

Zion Helping Hands will enhance its food pantry infrastructure by increasing storage and refrigeration capacity, ensuring consistent food access for northeast Louisiana communities.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Acadiana will install a touchless water fountain in their Crowley club to encourage healthy hydration habits among underserved youth.

Methodist Health System Foundation will expand support services at St. Bernard Parish schools to address students' rising mental health and basic needs.

“With several grant cycles throughout this year, Louisiana Healthcare Connections is committing $200,000 to support local initiatives strategically aligned with our mission of care,” said Jamie Schlottman, CEO and Plan President. “Together, we can create a healthier Louisiana.”
