Uniform ABA Prior Authorization Form Now Available

Louisiana Healthcare Connections would like to share an important update to the prior authorization process for Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) services. To simplify this process Louisiana Healthcare Connections has worked with the other Managed Care Organizations to create a new uniform ABA Prior Authorization Form (PDF).

Historically, ABA authorizations were administratively approved even when a member had a primary payor. Moving forward, we will follow the standard Coordination of Benefits (COB) process. If a member’s primary insurance covers ABA services, Medicaid will remain the payor of last resort, and the authorization will be placed in a pending status until primary coverage is confirmed.

What You Need to Know:

  • If the member has a primary payor, please submit documentation showing the primary insurer’s determination (approval or denial).
  • Authorizations will remain pending until documentation of primary coverage is received and verified.
  • This process may differ from what you experienced previously with Magellan.
