Welcome, UnitedHealthcare members! We're here for you and your health.

Date: 03/10/26

We know transitions like this can feel confusing or unexpected, but we are here for you throughout this process. Please know that your Medicaid eligibility has not changed. Your coverage continues, and Louisiana Healthcare Connections will provide all your Medicaid-covered services, plus extra benefits to help support your health, starting April 1.

Here’s what you need to know:

We have been working closely with Louisiana Medicaid and UnitedHealthcare to make sure this transition is as easy as possible for all our new members. Below are some answers to questions you may have.

When will I get my new Member ID card?

If you have not received it yet, your welcome packet with your new Member ID card is on its way. If you don’t receive your card by April 1, don’t worry — you’re still covered! Your doctor or pharmacy will check your eligibility and your plan in the Medicaid system.

You can also access your digital Member ID card on your smartphone anytime in the LA Wallet app. Your Member ID card in the app will update when your health plan changes.

To add your digital Member ID card to LA Wallet:

  1. Download the LA Wallet app. Create an account and add your Louisiana driver’s license or state ID. Visit the LA Wallet website to learn how.
  2. Add your Medicaid health plan card. Get step-by-step instructions on the LA Wallet website.

Do I need to find a new provider?

In most cases, no. When changing your plan, Medicaid tried to match you with a new plan that works with the providers you already see. Louisiana Healthcare Connections is also adding other providers and pharmacies from the UnitedHealthcare network who agree to serve our members.

Plus, you’re joining the Louisiana Medicaid plan with the largest provider network, including the most primary care providers (PCPs)! If your provider is not in our network, we can help you find a new one. To search for providers, try our online Find a Provider tool.

Will my current approvals and prescriptions continue to be covered?

Yes. Any prior approvals or prescriptions you had with UnitedHealthcare will be honored for your first 60 days with Louisiana Healthcare Connections. This includes standing orders for transportation. If additional services or approvals are needed, we’ll work with you and your providers to help avoid any gaps in care. If you were in care management with UnitedHealthcare, our care managers will reach out to you to continue that care.

How can I get more information about the health plan?

We’ll send you a welcome packet in the mail with more information about your Louisiana Healthcare Connections benefits. You will also get a welcome call from our team. If we receive your email address from Medicaid, we will also send you emails with helpful tips just for new members.

In the meantime, visit the new member page on our website for more information on:
