CLIA Certification- Updated Process

Date: 05/07/24

Louisiana Healthcare Connections has updated its process for handling CLIA validation for providers who have an expired CLIA Certification on the CMS file.

Louisiana Healthcare Connecitons will continue the current process of updating our system using the most recent quarterly CMS CLIA file. If your CLIA number is expired on the file, LHCC will allow a grace period of 180 days from the expiration date before denying any claims. During the 180-day grace period, claims that previously denied EXc1-DENIED: INVALID CLIA NUMBER, will pay as long as there is no other applicable denial reason.  Providers will receive an informational message on the EOP- “INFO: Post-Pay Review for CLIA Validation”.  This message should serve as reminder for providers to renew with CMS or send us the most current CLIA certification they have on file.

Additionally, Louisiana Healthcare Connections will accept updated CLIA certification by mail or email and promptly recycle any denied claims upon receipt. Providers are not required to act or resubmit claims for reimbursement. Please reach out to your Provider Consultant for further instructions if needed.

Louisiana Healthcare Connections has received the most recent CLIA file from CMS around mid-April, that file will be loaded this week and we will recycle any denied claims based on the updates in that file.

Claims that are billed with no CLIA Certification number will still deny and the providers must rebill those claims.
