5 Signs You Need Your Eyes Checked

Date: 03/14/18

As a Louisiana Healthcare Connections member, you have reliable, no-cost vision coverage. For adults, that includes a free eye exam and vision test every calendar year, and one pair of glasses (lenses and frames) each year.

But how do you know when it’s time to have your eyes checked? If you answer yes to any of these 5 questions, it’s time to get a vision screening:

  1. Do you squint a lot? This is a sign that your vision is poor. It might mean you are farsighted (see better far off) or nearsighted (see better close up). Either way, you need to have an eye exam.
  2. Are you having pain from eye strain? If you have eye pain from normal eye movements, or if your eyes get tired when you read or watch TV, you need a vision screening.
  3. Do you have frequent headaches? Poor vision can cause headaches because your eyes are straining to focus. This is a sure sign that you need to see an eye doctor for an exam.
  4. Are you having blurred vision? If your vision gets blurry when you read, drive, or look at a computer screen, you need an eye exam.
  5. Do you rub your eyes a lot? This is a common sign of eye strain. It can also be a symptom of an infection caused by allergies. Either way, you should see an eye doctor to have it checked out.
