Pink Letters Are Mailing Again! Help Your Patients Get Ready For Medicaid Renewals By Updating Their Contact Info

Date: 03/22/23

In March 2023, the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) and their six Medicaid MCOs again sent pink letters to every Medicaid household to confirm they have correct mailing addresses on file for enrollees. LDH and Louisiana Healthcare Connections are asking for your help to make sure your patients with Medicaid coverage know, if they do not get a pink letter by the end of March, they need to update their contact information.

How providers can help

1. Remind patients to keep their contact information up to date with Medicaid

If they did not get a pink letter, Medicaid members need to update their information now. But even if they did get a pink letter, it is imperative that Medicaid members continue to keep their contact information current. If your patients update their address, phone number or email address with your practice, remind them to update that information with Medicaid as well. They can do so by:

2. Talk with your patients about Medicaid renewals

For approximately half of Medicaid members, eligibility redeterminations will require action from the member. In late April 2023, Medicaid will begin sending letters and renewal packets to those members where more information is needed to determine eligibility. Not everyone will renew at the same time; it will take 12 months to renew all Medicaid members.  Help your patients get ready by making sure they know the following:

  • Members should make sure their contact information is up to date and watch their mail for letters from the Louisiana Department of Health/Louisiana Medicaid. Medicaid and their health plan may also send other communications like calls, texts, and emails, so be sure their email address, phone number and cell phone number are also up to date.
  • If they get a letter, they must follow the instructions and respond to requests for more information.
  • Members who do not respond to renewal letters or requests for information risk losing their coverage, even if they are eligible.

3. Make sure your practice stays informed

Thank you for helping your patients stay connected with their Medicaid coverage.
